Understanding Vicarious Trauma

Date: 22nd June 2022  9am to 1pm

Vicarious Trauma affects a large number of professionals who are immersed in work with vulnerable or traumatised individuals
in the UK.

Overtime, hearing accounts of violence and abuse can have a potentially detrimental impact on the psychological well-being of professionals. This training is aimed at helping professionals understand the impact of vicarious trauma so that they can care for themselves and other staff.

Cost: £75 per person

Safety, Trust and Respect

11-13 and 14 – 25 Prevention 

Date 1: 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th July  9:30am to 2pm

Date 2: 22nd, 23rd, 29th and 30th November  9:30am to 2pm *Not available for members

The STAR Prevention Programme is designed to be young person led and promote group discussions over the course of eight one-hour sessions. The topics covered will enable young people to recognise early warning signs and dangers of unhealthy relationships and provide the opportunity to discuss how consent, social media and society inform our relationships. The Programme encourages and empowers young people to make informed choices and know where to go for help and support.

The STAR Prevention facilitator training course is aimed at practitioners who work with children and Young People. On completing the facilitator training, learners will be able to confidently deliver Prevention sessions directly to children and young people and engage in discussions around the topics included.

Cost: £200 per person



Working With Survivors: Trauma Informed Practice

Date: 19th & 20th July 2022 9am to 1pm

This course aims to increase awareness of trauma, trauma informed approaches and how to work in a trauma-informed way with survivors of violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Cost: £150 per person

Understanding Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (VAWDASV)

Date: 15th & 16th August 2022 1pm to 4:30 pm

The course helps raise awareness of domestic abuse, sexual violence and violence against women. It helps learners to understand the dynamics of domestic abuse and how to respond to disclosures of VAWDASV. The course also addresses how to provide a sensitive and appropriate service to anyone experiencing domestic abuse, sexual violence or other forms of violence against women. Those working with people who may be experiencing VAWDASV eg. support workers, health professionals, teachers etc.

Cost: £150 per person

Domestic Abuse Awareness

Date: 22nd September 2022 9am to 1pm

This course explains the dynamics, nature, effects and causes of domestic abuse. Using case studies, learners will analyse victim responses, evaluate how best to respond to victim disclosures, and how to safeguard and share information safely and correctly. The course also looks at specialist support services, and how to refer to them.

Cost: £75 per person

Welsh Women’s Aid is offering the NOCN Level 3 Certificate in Preventing and Tackling Domestic Abuse.

This course offers an opportunity for specialists working within the Violence Against Women sector, to upskill and gain qualification to support their role. It is also an excellent opportunity for those whose work brings them into contact with survivors of domestic abuse and violence, to develop professional practices and enhance their knowledge. The course is accredited by NOCN.

We are offering 2 sets of dates.

September cohort will be delivered over the following dates:

Unit A – 12th to 16th September 2022

Unit B – 10th to 14th October 2022

Unit C – 7th to 11th November 2022

Unit D – 5th to 9th December 2022

Delivered digitally between 9am – 1pm on each date.

*Delegates must be able to attend all dates.


December cohort will be delivered over the following dates:

Unit A – 12th to 16th December 2022

Unit B – 16th to 20th January 2023

Unit C – 13th to 17th February 2023
