Understanding Economic Abuse

What is it all about?

This course looks at the historical and social context of economic inequality and abuse within the wider discourse of VAWDASV. Economic abuse disproportionately impacts women and girls during and long after an abusive relationship has ended. It affects their ability to work, to access education, legal services, has potential long-term implications on credit worthiness and ultimately impacts on their ability to be autonomous in exercising their rights within our society.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the practical support that can be offered by frontline workers to help survivors become economically resilient.
  • Understand the structural and legal frameworks in place to help workers feel more confident in supporting survivors who have experienced economic abuse and to promote economic empowerment for women and girls.
