Thank you to Feminist Gift contributor Maggie’s Exotic Foods. Read Maggie’s story below:
Maggie’s Exotic Foods, started way back in 1997 as Maggie’s Exotic Food Supplies,
Offering a range of African and Caribbean ambient products from our location in Essex, England. At the time we also provided a bespoke catering service for weddings and special occasions.
These days we are known simply as Maggie’s An African Twist To Your Everyday Dish ® and operate from our base in Penygroes, North Wales.
Our product range is stocked locally and in outlets outside Wales as well as our online shop where you can find details and buy our award winning products.
In West Africa most dishes are accompanied by really hot spicy sauces. In order to recreate these authentically, Maggie would cook the sauces and have a hot sauce on the side. In October of 2015 we hit on what was the foundation of the Asake Range of sauces, and launched them at the inaugural Gwyl Fwyd Caernarfon Food Festival and sold out.
We now proudly wear the title of Great Taste Producer.
Our story would not be complete without sharing what drives Maggie.
“I have a passion to see the hands of women/girls untied local, nationally and worldwide, in order for them to be able to effectively use what’s in their hands! So we are constantly looking for ways to help women and girls through employment, training, sharing insights, encouraging entrepreneurship, networking and several other ways and this continues to drive our passion to grow and progress as a business.”
