Resources for Journalists Reporting on Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence

Violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence can be an emotive and challenging topic to report on and read about. Journalists have a unique and powerful opportunity to support survivors to share their stories, to raise awareness, inspire reflection and action in society and help those affected by their content to reach out for help.

By getting this right, journalists can improve and even save lives.

Welsh Women’s Aid are proud to launch the resources below during the 16 Days of Activism 2021:

  •  A 10 point checklist before publication of a story discussing violence against women, domestic abuse or sexual violence
  •  Guidance for interviewing survivors
  • Guidance for reporting on sexual violence.

The resources are currently available in English and Welsh.
They have been developed with input from the sector, survivors and journalists. By working together we can inspire real change.
