A Blueprint for the Prevention of Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence

A Blueprint for the Prevention of Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (VAWDASV).

Violence against women, including domestic abuse and sexual violence (VAWDASV) is a major public health problem in Wales and globally. However, VAWDASV is not inevitable.

The Blueprint for Prevention demonstrates how, through taking a public health approach to VAWDASV, we can make progress towards achieving our vision: a Wales in which all women and children live free from violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence, and by doing so achieve independence, freedom and liberation from oppression.

The Blueprint has been produced by Welsh Women’s Aid with support from the Wales Violence Prevention Unit to outline what a public health approach to VAWDSV prevention would look like for Wales.

The paper sets out some of the key concepts which underpin our approach to preventing VAWDASV; identifies the strengths and weaknesses in the current response to VAWDASV in Wales; and proposes a way forward for the country.

A disappointing & shortsighted decision. 1 in 3 women experience violence or sexual abuse in their lifetime – in Wales, that equates to around 530,441 women. Domestic homicide reviews can reveal where opportunities for support could have been offered. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-…
